A Day in Amish Country

Since our arrival here in the Amish Country was in the late evening, we didn't get to see much. Today, fortunately, it was sunny. Unfortunately, it was also very cold (-5°C / 22°F)!

We started the day with a nice breakfast, served by our hostess Mary-Jane. Quiche....with...URGH!...CHEEEEEESE!!! Who ever invented this culinary abomination, I hope he/she now is in a place where he/she is being forced to eat his/her hideous creation forever!
Anyway, the coffee was very good and I could exchange the quiche for some scrambled eggs, which were really delicious! :-)

Then we got ready to drive to Menno Hof, a museum which shows a lot about the Amish/Mennonite history. This was very interesting - even though anyone, who prefers to live without modern technology, works from 5am until the evening comes, has no car, and doesn't play music at home, is nothing to me but crazy!!! Sorry, but I didn't want to disappoint those, who have been wating for some political incorrect and absolutely intolerant remark in my blog! ;-)

No worries, the horse survived! ;-)

In the afternoon, Sonja's cough started to worry me, so we went to see a doctor. Sweet, it's a bronchitis! Of course!!! The trip wouldn't have been complete without some random, totally unnecessary illness! At least we got prescriptions for all sorts of medication which she might need to regain health. Hopefully this will happen very soon! It would also be nice for me to sleep again all through the night! ;-)
For all those, who always thought of me as an egoist: you're half-right! But I simply would have preferred it, to be woken up for something other than listening to the sweet sound of coughing during our honeymoon! :-)
This, of course, was just to satisfy those, who had so long wated for an indecent commentary! But seriously, I hope she get's well soon!

To cheer her up a bit, I didn't complain when she took me to one of her infamous gift shop marathons! Yay!

That is exactly how I feel in a gift shop! ;-)

After having survived this - of course without finding anything worth bying ;-)  - I got rewarded with a delicious dinner at the Blue Gate Restaurant. The food there was excellent. A waitress asked us where we lived, and after hearing that we are from Germany, she introduced us to another waitress, who can speak Pennsilvania Durch (the language of the amish). We understood almost everything because it is, basically, a dialect of German, Swiss-German and Dutch. This again, lead to a funny conversation with two nice elderly ladies from Illinois, who have been to Germany many years ago. I remember a similar situation on the train from Reno to San Francisco, in 2010, which ended with me drinking lots of cocktails for free. Unfortunately, this didn't happen again today, but it was still highly enjoyable!

On our way back to the B&B, we took some pictures of the surroundings. Nice sundown!
